Building the MIG6 platform for energy market communication

Context

Eandis distributes electricity in Flanders. The liberalisation of the Belgian energy market introduced a federal clearing house (Atrias) and a new message protocol, MIG6, that every distributor had to comply with.

Market processes such as move-ins arrive as standard messages but mean complex business logic internally — logic that spans the IS-U backend, the meter data management system and third parties.

The challenge

Build a new integration foundation for MIG6 between the clearing house and the SAP backends, model the market business logic as BPM orchestrations in SAP PO, and keep very high message volumes observable — without disrupting the interfaces the backends already served.

What we did

  1. 01

    New integration foundation

SAP PO established as the ESB layer between the Central Market System (Atrias) and the backends — IS-U, MDM and third-party systems.

  2. 02

    Interface analysis and design

Every MIG6 process book analysed against backend information flows, producing the full interface and orchestration design.

  3. 03

    BPMN orchestrations

Business logic modelled as BPM processes in SAP PO, including inter-process communication and extensive use of sub-processes.

  4. 04

    Canonical data models

The common data models that let clearing-house messages map cleanly onto each backend.

  5. 05

    Testing at market scale

System, integration, DNB and market testing rounds together with the clearing house and other market parties.

  6. 06

    Monitoring on HANA

Operational Process Intelligence dashboards built to follow every process instance, plus reports accumulating data from backends and legacy systems.

  7. 07

    Engineering depth

Complex Java mappings for archiving solutions and adapter modules for technical acknowledgements towards the CMS; performance thresholds for the market system studied explicitly.

The outcome

  • — A market-compliant integration platform for the new Belgian energy market model.
  • — Market processes monitorable end to end through OPI on HANA dashboards.
  • — Archiving and acknowledgements engineered in, so the platform stayed auditable under growth.
